The Five Questions We Ask Every New Client (And Why)

Introduction

When someone first gets in touch with us we don’t dive straight into receipts, spreadsheets or tax codes. We start we start with a conversation.

The objective is simple, to get under the skin of your business, understand your short, medium and long term goals and figure out how we can make your numbers work harder for you.

Our aim is to give you the clarity and information you need at your fingertips to make decisions that keep you on the right trajectory.
Here are the five questions we ask every new client and why they matter:

What Does Your Business Actually Do?

It might sound obvious, but this is one of the most important questions we ask, how do you actually make your money?

Whether that’s through services, products or a mixture, it shapes everything about your accounts. It affects what you can expense, how you track your income and even what type of legal structure makes the most sense for your industry.

How Do You Currently Pay Yourself?

This is often where we find the biggest opportunities to improve tax efficiency. Directors and business owners sometimes default to just one method, usually salary or dividends, without realising there might be a smarter mix available.

Getting this balance right can save you money and reduce stress.

What’s your big goal over the next 1-3 years?

For some people it’s growth, for others it’s stability and for many it’s something personal like buying a home.

Your goals outside the business matter just as much as the numbers inside it. Knowing what you’re aiming for helps us give advice that lines up with your bigger picture.

What Systems Or Tools Do You Use Already?

Some clients come to us with cloud accounting software already setup, others are still on spreadsheets and some have nothing in place yet.

By asking this we can meet you where you are, making sure we don’t reinvent the wheel but also spotting where a better system could save you time and headaches.

What Keeps You Up At Night About Money?

This one often gets the most honest answers.

It could be fear of a surprise tax bill, uncertainty about cashflow or just not knowing if you’re doing things right and worrying that you’re leaving money on the table, or worse paying more tax than you need to.

That’s where we step in, we take the pressure off and give you clarity and confidence.

Final Thoughts

These aren’t just box ticking questions, they’re how we make sure the numbers serve you not the other way round.

Still not sure if you’re setup in the smartest way? Feel free to get in touch and we’ll talk it through to help you find clarity.

We’ll take care of the numbers so you can focus on what you do best.
